The Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Doha facilitated a courtesy visit between the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Kadijatu Grace Ahene Kamara, and the leadership of Qatar Museums at its headquarters, Tower 1, Doha.
The meeting, held with H.E. Mohammed Saad Alrumaihi, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Museums, focused on exploring avenues for cooperation in the areas of tourism, culture, exhibitions, and capacity building between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the State of Qatar.
Discussions highlighted Qatar Museums’ interest in cultural collaboration with African nations through initiatives such as the Qatar–Africa Cultural Year Programme, which promotes cultural exchange and people-to-people engagement. The Deputy Minister expressed Sierra Leone’s interest in participating in such initiatives and emphasized the Government’s vision of leveraging tourism and culture as drivers for investment, national branding, and economic growth.
The possibility of hosting Sierra Leonean cultural exhibitions in Qatar, as well as future training opportunities for Sierra Leonean professionals in tourism and cultural affairs, was also discussed. Both sides acknowledged shared cultural values and the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations..
The meeting further explored the prospect of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sierra Leone and Qatar Museums to formalize cooperation. It was agreed that such an MoU could be considered during a future high-level engagement, including a possible State visit.
Both parties expressed strong interest in sustained engagement and agreed to maintain regular communication through the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Doha, with a view to advancing future cultural and tourism initiatives.
