PUBLIC ADVISORY
Guidance for Sierra Leoneans Living in or Seeking Employment in the State of Qatar
The Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Doha issues this advisory to guide Sierra Leonean nationals residing in, or intending to travel to, the State of Qatar. Strict compliance with Qatar’s immigration, residency, and labour laws is required to ensure a lawful and secure stay.
Entry and Visa Requirements
Sierra Leonean nationals must enter Qatar using the correct visa category. Individuals on visit or tourist visas are not permitted to work under any circumstances. Engaging in employment without authorization is a serious offence under Qatari law and may result in arrest, fines, detention, or deportation.
Employment and Residency
- ✔ A valid job offer from a registered employer
- ✔ Entry is made on a work visa
- ✔ A Residence Permit is obtained promptly after arrival
- ✔ Employment is carried out strictly with the approved sponsor
Important: Working for a different employer, absconding, or changing jobs without legal approval is prohibited.
Residence Permit Compliance
Residents must ensure their QID and visas remain valid at all times. Overstaying an expired visa or residence permit attracts penalties, including fines and possible deportation. Responsibility for renewal rests with the individual in coordination with their sponsor.
Avoid Fraud and Illegal Recruitment
- ⚠ Unverified recruitment agents
- ⚠ Job offers without official contracts or visas
- ⚠ Requests for illegal fees or payments
The Embassy does not endorse private recruitment agents.
Respect for Local Laws and Customs
All Sierra Leonean nationals must respect the laws, customs, and traditions of the State of Qatar. Violations of public order, labour, or immigration laws carry serious legal consequences.
Embassy Registration and Support
Sierra Leoneans are encouraged to register with the Embassy upon arrival in Qatar. Registration enables access to consular support and emergency communication.
Disclaimer:
The Embassy provides guidance and consular assistance but cannot intervene
in immigration or legal decisions taken by Qatari authorities.
Compliance with local laws remains the responsibility of each individual.
